Environmental assessments coming soon
Another opportunity to have your say on Star of the South is coming up next month, when environmental assessments will be released for public review and comment.
During the 30 business day public review period, you’ll be able to:
- Read information about the project, its potential effects on the environment and how these will be addressed
- Ask questions of our team at events online and in Gippsland
- Make a submission for consideration by government before they decide on project approvals.
We’ll share another update when the public review period starts.
In the meantime, find out more about the assessment processes on our website.

Community newsletter to hit Gippsland letterboxes
The 6th edition of the Star of the South community newsletter will hit more than 40,000 Gippsland letterboxes from Inverloch to Lakes Entrance next week.
We do this to help ensure locals are aware of the project and opportunities to get involved.
This edition shares information about the project, what we’ve been up to, and what’s next – with a focus on the upcoming public review of environmental assessments.
Read the latest community newsletter and find previous editions on our website.
A local sees offshore wind reinvigorating his hometown
A recent story in the Gippsland Monitor highlighted the opportunity offshore wind presents to bring new energy back to communities that have given so much over the years.
A local resident and ex-business owner spoke about his hopes that offshore wind can help bring jobs and investment to nearby towns.
We’ll keep working with communities and all levels of government to build Gippsland’s new energy industry in a way that delivers long-term local benefits.
3 years since Australian first seabed survey
Time sure does fly when you’re planning an offshore wind project! It’s been 3 years since we undertook Australia’s first geotechnical survey for offshore wind – and 6 years since our first geophysical survey.
These studies confirmed that the seabed in the Star of the South licence area is suitable for offshore wind.
Seabed samples and other data collected have since been used to inform turbine foundation selection, environmental assessments, and to identify suitable construction methods – all tailored specifically for this spot in Bass Strait.
Here’s a recap of the very first seabed geophysical survey in 2020.
